With the support of their families and friends, 8 of our students took part in the annual sponsored swim and raised a whopping £1,100 for the school. Bob Hockey, Chair, accompanied by fellow Hedgehogs Bob Jervis, Brian Lacey and Alastair Muir came along to our whole school ‘start the week’ assembly on Monday to present the cheque to some of the students.
This was the largest amount raised by any one organisation taking part and as a result the team won the Hedgehogs trophy for the third time! Mr Aspinall explained:“We are very grateful to the Hedgehogs for organising this event every year so that students can raise funds for their school. We are very proud, as one of the smallest schools in Farnham in terms of numbers of students, to have retained the Hedgehogs trophy. As a special school, our students are the grateful recipients of support from a number of charities, including The Hedgehogs, as well as local businesses. We believe that it is also important for pupils to have opportunities, such as this, to start to learn the importance of helping themselves, as well as taking part in events to raise money for others, such as the Reindeer run for Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice. Every term the School Council organises a fund-raising non-uniform day, cake sale or similar. Last academic year they raised over £2,000 for PTH, the Air Ambulance and Woofability. We are less than half way through this year and they have already smashed this total!”
